The Luigi Bormioli company was founded by engineer Luigi Bormioli in Italy in 1946 and initially specialized in producing glass for the perfume industry. In the early 1970s, the company's technical staff created a revolutionary technology that allowed for the industrial-scale production of glasses and tumblers with a quality previously achievable only by hand. This innovation gave rise to a new market segment of tableware: high-quality products with refined design. The Supremo series was developed by Luigi Bormioli designers in collaboration with Centro Studi Assaggiatori. All items are made from SON.hyx crystal glass, produced using a blow molding method. Through this new process, they become lighter and thinner while maintaining their strength. The shapes of the items are both innovative and elegant, offering a unique sensory perception of wine aromas as their bouquet opens in the glass, while simultaneously reducing the alcoholic element. Thus, the aromas and flavors of the wine unfold pleasantly in the glass. The smooth transition between the conical and convex shapes prevents the destruction of aromatic molecules during the wine's swirling process. The convex surface ensures a high degree of wine oxidation on the surface with a low oxidation level at the bottom, preserving the most subtle aromas and facilitating their pleasant release. The Epicure – an indentation at the base of the glass – provides a true reflection of the wine's color.
